Posted: Jul 01 2020

The U.S. Department of Agriculture released its annual June Acreage Report on June 30.  It showed the planted area of canola is estimated at 1.87 million acres in 2020, down 8 percent from last year’s planted area but represents the fourth highest planted area on record for the Nation.
Planted area in North Dakota, the leading canola-producing State, is down 9 percent from last year, to 1.55 million acres.  Planted acres in North Dakota have ranged from 1.45 million to 1.7 million acres since 2016. Planted area in Washington is a record high and the area forecast for harvest in the State will be a record high, if realized. Planted acres in Minnesota are projected at 71,000, up sharply from last year’s 51,000.
Compared with last year, planted area in Kansas and Oklahoma declined 24,000 acres and 23,000 acres, respectively. Area planted in both States represents the lowest acreage since data began to be published in those States.
