Construction is currently scheduled to begin in August of 2007. Three Minnesota companies are contracted for design supply and construction: Karges-Faulconbridge as lead engineer, McGough Construction as construction manager, and Crown Ironworks to supply oil seed extraction technology.
“We also expect to see local subcontractors bidding on parts of this project,” added Johnson. “Our long-term vision is for this project to be a source of pride for Hallock, and locally owned and governed.”
The project’s feasibility study and pre-planning was funded by a grant from Northwest Minnesota Foundation, the United States Department of Agriculture, and the Agricultural Utilization and Research Institute of Minnesota. The construction is expected to be financed though a combination of private equity and debt financing.
Northstar Bioenergy was formed in 2006 by two groups of local investors who share agricultural industry experience, one from Hallock, Minnesota, and the other from Fargo, North Dakota. The company’s goal is to create economic wealth for the region through the processing of agricultural products for the food and energy industries.
